‘Hoppy’ times in Wimborne Community Garden
The volunteer-run garden hosted an Easter egg hunt and traditional games on Sunday 29 March.
Residents with young children were treated to an early Easter on Sunday 29 March as Wimborne Community Garden held its Great Easter Egg Hunt event.
The volunteer-run garden charged a small fee for children to take part in a series of games, including an egg-and-spoon race, pancake race, cornhole challenge and a traditional version of an Easter egg hunt.
Instead of looking for hidden eggs, children had to find different coloured sticks planted in the nearby field. These sticks corresponded to raffle tickets, with some tickets awarding the youngsters sweets or chocolate and entering them into a raffle with the chance to win a full-size Easter egg.
The children with the fastest times in the races, or achieving the highest scores playing cornhole, were also awarded chocolate eggs at the end of the afternoon.
To combat the cold weather, adults enjoyed tea, coffee and cake provided by the garden’s volunteers.
Community garden volunteer Jane Benson said: “Thank you so much to all those amazing families and friends who braved what turned out to be an extremely cold afternoon at the Wimborne Community Easter Egg Hunt and turned it into a fun-filled, joyous afternoon.
“The sound of children laughing and squealing with delight in the garden was priceless, and the level of competition in seeing just who could run and flip pancakes the fastest was a delight to see. What a cracking afternoon we had!”
All money raised by the event will be reinvested into the community garden.
The group’s next project is to build a show garden to display at the BBC Gardeners’ World Spring Fair at Beaulieu in May. Fundraising for this project is currently ongoing and needs support. To donate, visit the website: https://www.justgiving.com/page/wimborne-community-garden-1.
