Staff in the Dorset Heart Centre have been celebrating 10 years since it first opened its doors – with an impressive 60,000 patients treated by the dedicated team over the last decade.
The centre, based at the Royal Bournemouth Hospital, serves a population of more than one million people from Dorset and beyond and is known both nationally and internationally for its excellent results and outcomes for patients, cutting-edge technology and research.
The thousands of patients who have passed through its doors since 2005 have undergone a range of procedures, including angiograms, stenting, pacemaker operations, ablations for cardiac rhythm disturbances and the insertion of cardiac defibrillators. The centre also treats heart attack patients from across Dorset 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
To mark its 10th birthday, staff attended an educational day on Friday followed by a celebration in the evening.
Consultant cardiologist, Dr Mark Sopher, said: “I can barely believe it has been 10 years since we started this fantastic centre. It has served our patients really well and there is still plenty more we can do to improve services in and around Dorset.”
Consultant cardiologist, Dr Rosie Swallow, added: “Congratulations to all who have contributed to the centre over the last 10 years for all their hard work. May it continue to provide excellent care to the people of Dorset and beyond.”
