Improvements planned for Victoria Road, Ferndown
Ferndown Town Council has announced planned improvements for Victoria Road and is seeking public feedback.
The main high street in Ferndown is set to get a makeover, and Ferndown Town Council is asking residents for their preferences and feedback on what the area should look like.
Plans for the new look for Victoria Road were published on Monday 29 September, in partnership with Dorset Council and Litter Free Dorset.
The proposed changes include new flagpoles along the road, 10 seating area, eight extra planters, seven cycle racks, and kerbside bollards to prevent pavement parking.
The flagpoles will display seasonal images and messages and aim to create a welcoming and vibrant “avenue” feel.
The plans propose three different styles of street furniture: a modern style using timber and steel, an eco style with produce made from recycled rubber and plastic, or a heritage style, using cast iron and steel, and with bins marked ‘LITTER’ in gold.
Ferndown Town Council and Dorset Council are now seeking public feedback on which style to choose for the planters, benches, bollards and bins, what seasonal messaging should be used for the flagpoles, and other views on the proposals.
An online survey will open on Monday 13 October until Thursday 13 November, and a paper copy can be picked up from The Barrington on Pennys Walk. There will also be four public engagement events at Ferndown Town Council’s offices in The Barrington. The dates for these events are:
- Tuesday 14 October from 2.30pm to 5.30pm
- Monday 20 October from 4pm to 7pm
- Thursday 30 October from 4pm to 7pm
- Thursday 6 November from 9.30am to 12.30pm
Earlier this year, broken and dilapidated planters were removed from the street, as were several trees which were deemed to be struggling to provide. The new proposed planters will not contain trees, just shrubs, bushes and plants.
Dorset Council aims to install the improvements by spring 2026, in time for the planting season.
