Man arrested following a fatal hit-and-run in Poole
Dorset Police are hoping for dashcam footage or witnesses to come forward following a fatality in Oakdale on Wednesday 7 January.
A man found dead in Oakdale in the early hours of Wednesday 7 January was the victim of a suspected hit-and-run driver, and a Bournemouth man has been arrested.
Dorset Police received a report at 2.12am that a man had been found unresponsive in Wimborne Road near the junction with Heath Avenue.
Following further enquiries, it was reported that at around 2.06am the man had been involved in a collision with a vehicle, which had failed to stop at the scene.
Emergency services responded and, very sadly, the man – in his 20s – was pronounced dead at the scene. His family has been informed and are being supported by officers.
Road closures were put in place to allow detailed enquiries to be carried out, including a full examination of the collision scene.
Following extensive enquiries by officers, a 51-year-old man from Bournemouth has been arrested on suspicion of driving offences.
Inspector Joe Wheable, of the Roads Policing Team, said: “Our thoughts are with the family and loved ones of the young man who sadly died at this extremely difficult time.
“We are carrying out a thorough investigation to establish the circumstances of this incident.
“I would urge any witnesses or anyone who may have captured any relevant dashcam footage, or witnessed anything suspicious in the area, to please contact us. I would also ask residents with home CCTV systems in the vicinity to please review their footage for anything that might assist our enquiries.
“Finally, I would like to thank members of the public for their patience and understanding during the road closures, which are in place to allow us to fully investigate this incident.”
