Annette Brooke, MP for Mid Dorset and North Poole, welcomed the announcement this week by the Health Minister, Dr Dan Poulter MP, that Poole Hospital would be one of 100 hospitals around the country to benefit from a new £25million maternity unit fund.
Poole Hospital will receive a £40,000 grant to fund for additional birthing pools. The hospital currently has two pools on their low risk birth facility, which are in great demand but only available to women with the lowest risk pregnancies. However, birthing pools on the High Risk Delivery Suite would allow women with higher risk pregnancies the option to give birth in water too.
Annette said, “I welcome the Government’s announcement that new funding will be available for Poole Hospital to improve its maternity provision. However, this does not obviate the need for the longstanding plans for a new maternity unit in Poole which offers level three services for Dorset as a whole to be implemented.”
