Overnight clean up of A338 Spur Road this week
BCP and Dorset Councils are working together to clean up the road between the Cooper Dean and Ashley Heath roundabouts.
Rubbish continues to pile up along the A338 Spur Road between the Cooper Dean and Ashley Heath roundabouts, forcing an overnight clean up operation which will take place overnight this week.
The work will include litter picking; road sweeping; grass cutting; bridge inspections and repairs; gully clearing; and localised safety repairs to the carriageway.
It will take place over four nights, with lane closures in place from 9pm to 6am, as follows:
- Overnight on Monday 4 and on Tuesday 5 November – southbound carriageway from Ashley Heath to Cooper Dean
- Overnight on Wednesday 6 and on Thursday 7 November – northbound carriageway from Cooper Dean to Ashley Heath
The carriageways will be fully open to vehicles daily.
Dorset Council works with BCP Council to carry out the twice-yearly clean-up.
Cllr Jon Andrews, Cabinet Member for Place Services at Dorset Council, said: “This regular event enables our crews to safely clear vegetation, and also clear up the large amount of rubbish that collects along the A338.
“Last year, our team cleared 14 tonnes (the equivalent weight of two small lorries) during their twice-yearly clean-ups.
“It continues to be hugely disappointing that so much rubbish is dumped on our highway verges. This is bad news for the environment and an unnecessary burden on council taxpayers.
“Thank you for your patience whilst we close the carriageways overnight to safely undertake this work.”
Motorists are advised to allow extra time for their journey during these nightworks, for example if they are travelling to Bournemouth airport for a late night or early morning flight.
The recommended diversion route will be signposted. National regulations state that traffic must be diverted onto roads with the same classification as the one that is closed.
