Overspent this Christmas? Dorchester charity offers money coaching
Christians Against Poverty are providing a free personal finance course in Dorchester to help people rebuild after the festive holidays.
If you feel like you overspent in December and are struggling to manage the bills, then you are likely not alone. The Bank of England claims that the average household in the UK spends more than £700 extra in December than in other months.
To help people rebuild their savings and learn to manage their finances, a charity in Dorchester is offering a free money coaching course later this month.
“Christmas can be expensive and stressful,” says Christians Against Poverty (CAP) money coach Dick Howard. “Many families will find that every penny counts in January. Rebuilding your finances can help you feel more at ease and lessen the stress of money worries.”
Howard and fellow CAP coaches are offering two three-hour courses, one on Saturday 18 January 9.30am to 12.30pm and the other on Tuesday 3 January 2pm to 5pm, at the Dorford Centre, 2 Bridport Rd, Dorchester, DT1 1RR.
Participants on the courses will learn how to put a budget together, how to make your money go further and how to be disciplined about spending.
Howard added: “The courses are tried and tested. And they are independent – no one is trying to sell you any financial products. Best bit? It’s totally free.”
In addition to the free advice and educations, participants who live in DT1/DT2 postcodes or who are NHS workers will receive a £20 Co-op voucher thanks to sponsorship from Dorchester Poverty Action and Dorchester Foodbank.
Dorchester Baptist Church has been running the courses for over six years, using material created by CAP. During that time, nearly 250 people have taken the course.
Christians Against Poverty is a UK charity working with over 800 local churches to deliver debt help, budgeting guidance, support to find work, life skills groups and more. CAP is committed to its services being accessible and inclusive and supports people from all faiths. The charity does not discriminate by age, gender reassignment, being married or in a civil partnership, being pregnant or on maternity leave, disability, race, religion or belief, sex or sexual orientation.
