Plan your royal street party in Bournemouth, Christchurch or Poole
If you need to apply for a road closure in order to have your street party to mark the Queen’s platinum jubilee you have until 22 April.
Residents in Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole who are hoping to enjoy a street party on 5 June to celebrate the Queen’s platinum jubilee are being urged to start planning now as applications to BCP Council for a road closure must be received by 22 April at the very latest. There will be no charge for this but roads that are on bus routes cannot be considered for closure.
The four-day Bank Holiday weekend begins on Thursday 2 June and will include public events such as Trooping the Colour and a live concert at Buckingham Palace culminating in The Big Jubilee Lunch and Pageant on Sunday 5 June when people across the country will be invited to sit down together to enjoy street parties.
National Thank You Day, where we say thank you to our communities, is also being held on the same day to coincide with the Jubilee and is hoping to break the record for Britain’s biggest ever national party as part of the Queen’s Jubilee celebrations.
Cllr Beverley Dunlop, portfolio holder for Culture and Vibrant Places, said: “We have a wonderful mix of cultures across Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole and it would be amazing to see families coming together to celebrate this unique event and make new friends.
“Let’s take this opportunity to share our pride in our beautiful towns and celebrate our diverse and colourful communities over our favourite foods as we celebrate Her Majesty’s Platinum Jubilee. And let’s break the record for street parties.”
There are other ways to get involved too, with one of the national initiatives, such as the Queen’s Green Canopy initiative, where some 60,000 trees have already been planted nationally, with people encouraged to ‘plant a tree for the jubilee’.
Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole will be participating in the national beacon lighting programme, with beacons being lit at the start of the celebratory weekend and events being planned around the lighting ceremonies to be announced shortly.
