Cllr Mrs Sandra Grove the outgoing mayor of Verwood and her consort Clive Grove were guests of the Verwood Probus Club at a black tie dinner dance celebrating 25 years since the club was formed in 1991.
Sixty-eight members attended the event, held on 10 May, which included two of the original foundation members Bryan Mayor and Ernest Welstead.
During the meal, guests were serenaded by a duo who continued playing after a short celebratory speech by the Probus president Martin Geary. The mayor responded by endorsing the club’s activities to promote fellowship amongst men of retirement age and the support given to the local Lantern Community, which provides accommodation and employment for those who are at a disadvantage in society.
The proceeds of a raffle held during the evening will be presented to the Lantern for which the prizes were donated by the Morrison Store of Verwood and members of the club.
