A prolific driving offender has been handed a four-week prison sentence suspended for 12 months and a two-year driving ban.
Liam Brown, 19, of Poole, was given the sentence East Dorset Magistrates on 13 June after pleading guilty to driving while disqualified and driving without insurance. He had been remanded into police custody the night before.
He was seen driving at 2.45pm on Sunday 12 June in Waterloo Road in Poole by an off-duty police officer who recognised the man as someone disqualified from driving.
Duty officers were dispatched and searched the area. His vehicle was pulled over and he was arrested.
Traffic Sergeant Stu Pitman, of Dorset Police’s No Excuse Team, said: “We have been actively targeting repeat offenders such as Brown in an attempt to change their behaviour.
“His complete disregard for the law could result in him being sent to prison and I hope us actively publicising his offending will act as a future deterrent to him and anyone else regularly committing driving offences.
“Over the last six months he has had three cars seized from him and he has been arrested for disqualified driving, for holding no insurance and for careless driving. Reports had also been received that he was continuing to drive with children in the car around the Poole area.
“We continue to engage with Brown in an attempt to stop his offending and his family and friends fully support the action we are taking.
“Not only is Brown putting his life in danger, but the lives of his family and friends if they get in the car with him, and also the lives of the general public. His driving could have fatal consequences.
“We act on intelligence from the public to help us track and convict offenders, from those with disqualifications to those who regularly drink and drug drive.
“If you do know of anyone committing or about to commit a driving offence, please contact police urgently so we can deal with them robustly and bring them to justice.”
