In its eighth year, the Dorset Plane Pull will take place on August Bank Holiday Monday from 10am.
This unique fund-raising event will be hosted by European Skybus at Bournemouth Airport.
Since the plane pull’s inception in 2009, £84,000 has been raised for a variety of charities, and organisers hope to take the total raised to over £100,000 this year.
The 2016 event will support over 10 charities including Bournemouth Hospital, the Isabel Baker Foundation, New Forest Night Stop and Meningitis UK.
Event founder and organiser Richard Griffin says that national and local businesses have once again committed to support the day, with the 35,000kg Boeing 737 provided by local aviation firm European Skybus. Additional supporters of the event include Bliss Aviation, Bournemouth Airport, Wyvern Cargo and More Buses.
“Teams of over 20 will attempt to pull the 737 airliner a distance of 50 metres, some with the aim of taking the title of the ‘fastest pull’ currently claimed by reigning champions, team ‘Al of A Pull’ who have successfully held their title for the last three years with the fastest time being a mere 25.7 seconds,” said Richard Griffin.
Already a total of 24 teams have confirmed their attendance. The day will provide fun for all taking part and their supporters, even for those not pulling. With entertainment, food, drinks, stalls and activities being provided, as well as a live band and a traditional Punch & Judy show, balloon modelling and more. Younger visitors will also be able to feel what it’s like sitting in the hot seat by getting up close to an ex-fighter jet cockpit provided by Bournemouth Aviation Museum.
