Pupils from Christchurch school brew up a storm
Portfield School Sixth Form pupils appeared at this year’s Christchurch Living Advent Calendar, brewing coffee and providing entertainment.
Pupils from Portfield School Sixth Form not only proved they were adept at making coffee, they also raised over £680 in this year’s Christchurch Living Advent Calendar (CLAC).
Singers, musicians and trainee ‘Brew Crew’ baristas entertained the crowds at Saxon Square on 11 December with a mix of music and coffee.
Portfield School, its Sixth Form, bespoke Futures programme and Adult Services are operated by the charity Autism Unlimited.
The Brew Crew initiative was set up to equip the school’s young people with practical work experience as they transition into adulthood and employment. Small teams of students at the Sixth Form in Airfield Road, Christchurch, enjoy 10-week courses with professional barista Tim Hewitt.
Hannah Woollven, head of marketing and fundraising at Autism Unlimited, said: “Portfield School students have been performing at CLAC every year since it started and are incredibly proud of the part they play in this wonderful winter festival. This year, the band performed a mix of festive and pop songs, while the Brew Crew prepared 40 coffees to warm the crowds. Thank you to everyone who came, it was a fabulous night which was enjoyed by all.”
The Brew Crew is available for private hire and corporate events. If you are interested in finding out more about how it can support your event and give its students the chance to build their business, please contact: tina.flower@autism-unlimited.org.
