Set in a small mining town in the north east of England, against the background of the 1984-85 miners’ strike, Billy Elliot is the inspirational story of a young boy’s struggle to make his dream come true. The musical follows Billy’s journey as he stumbles out of the boxing ring and into a ballet class, where he discovers a passion for dance that inspires his family, the whole community and which changes his life forever.
Ian Hawkins, Producer and Musical Director of Billy Elliot comments, “We are very excited to be staging the hit musical and our students are currently working extremely hard on all aspects of the production. Every year I am amazed by the talent of our students, who dedicate a considerable amount of time and effort, over and above their studies, to make sure that the show lives up to the incredibly high standards for which we are known. To be part of a show of this quality and scale is a fantastic achievement”.
Ringwood School will stage Billy Elliot six times during the week, culminating in a black tie gala performance on Saturday 18 February.
