Wimborne Rotary’s eighth Great Santa Fun Run, held at Badbury Rings point-to-point course on Sunday 11 December, saw more than 100 Santa’s taking part. Participants can run or walk over a challenging course of two or four miles raising sponsorship for their individual or team charities.
John and Molly Slow from Wimborne, aged 85 and 86 respectively, were the two oldest participants to complete the two-mile challenge following a cheerful warm-up session led by Jim Williams.
Sponsored by the Rotary club’s Business Partners, this year beneficiaries included no less than 12 charities with an additional £2,000 being raised for Rotary Charities. Although total figures for the benefitting charities have not yet been finalised it is expected that it will be several thousand pounds.
The event organiser Rotarian Alan Griffiths said, “ After the event free mince pies were eagerly seized upon by the runners,” adding that the Rotary Club “was pleased that so many runners turned out to take part in such lovely conditions and that the event had supported such a worthwhile group of charities.”
