As part of Sceptre, which ran from 11 to 17 November, knives were either surrendered or seized and presentations made to schools.
The government scheme runs until 23 September, with a new law coming into force the following day prohibiting ‘zombie knives’ and machetes.
This week marks Sceptre, a national week of action to tackle knife crime, which will run until Sunday 19 May 2024.
553 knives have been surrendered in public bins in Hampshire, and a further 28 were surrendered or seized in Dorset, in a week-long initiative.
Dorset Police is supporting Op Sceptre a national campaign week-long knife amnesty, which is encouraging people to ‘bin a knife’.
From 11 – 17 March members of the public in Dorset can dispose of unwanted knives and bladed items at designated police stations without fear of prosecution
