The authority has been given a level 3 rating by Active Travel England in recognition of travel improvements across the conurbation.

A problem with the online consultation platform and the huge response from local people has persuaded the council to extend the deadlines.

The Local Transport Plan aims to develop and promote accessible and inclusive travel choices for residents, workers, and visitors.

Some services will be increased, infrastructure upgraded and a minibus trialled to encourage people to use buses.

Improvements amounting to more than £7 million will be made to travel safety measures and highway maintenance.
