Restoration and conservation work on two historically significant buildings on the Poole Museum site has begun.
The ‘Our Museum: Rediscovering Poole’s Maritime Heritage’ project, which will cost £4.37million, is to receive £2.24 million lottery funding.
The new exhibition, which opens on 18 June, will illustrate the stories of Poole Gypsies and travellers.
Thanks to funding of £80,000 from Historic England there will be a number of events over a three-year period in Poole High Street.
If a £2.2m bid to the National Heritage Lottery Fund is successful, Poole Museum will undergo major transformation works.
Poole Museum and Russell-Cotes Art Gallery and Museum in Bournemouth have reopened today, Tuesday 7 July.
