An exhibition of artwork inspired by the bestselling book ‘The Lost Words’ by Robert Macfarlane and artist Jackie Morris is set to take place at Moors Valley Country Park and Forest.

The book began as a response to the removal of everyday nature words, including ‘acorn’, ‘bluebell’ and ‘kingfisher’ from the Oxford Junior Dictionary because the words were not being used enough to merit inclusion.

In celebration of British wildlife and nature, artists of all ages and abilities have been invited to contribute artwork to the community exhibition which will include postcard-sized artwork representing the 20 words from the award-winning book.

Works can include any 2-dimensional format of artwork including paintings, drawings, photography, textiles, and can also include printed words or poems. The closing date for entries to the exhibition is 15 April, and the selected images will be on display from 27 April to 9 June. Artwork will be available to purchase, with proceeds going towards the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds.

The exhibition is the latest in a series of initiatives and events helping visitors connect with nature at Moors Valley Country Park, including the opening of the Ranger Den and launch of the Moors Lake Audio Trail.
