Three Lymington sisters each win gold in National School Ski Championships
Three sisters, who study at Ballard School, each won gold in the prestigious British Independent Schools Ski Racing Championships held in Pila, Italy.
Natasha, Anastacia and Sophie Stocker, all pupils at Ballard School in New Milton, took first place in both the giant slalom and slalom races respectively in the U16, U14 and U12 girls’ competitions at the prestigious British Independent Schools Ski (BISS) Race Championships held in the beautiful Alpine resort of Pila.
Both races involve a combination of speed and turning-precision and require physical and mental stamina. As well as winning their individual competitions, Natasha won best overall senior girl and Sophie best overall junior girl placing Ballard School third in the schools’ table.
Headmaster of Ballard School, Alastair Reid, said, “We’re very proud of the girls’ sporting achievements. One of Ballard’s guiding principles is the encouragement and support of our pupils in pursuing a wide range of interests both in sport and the arts. Although the academic life of our pupils is of prime importance, we believe these extra-curricular activities enhance their educational experience. We do everything we can, as a school, to ensure our pupils fulfil their potential in whichever sphere they choose. Who knows? One day we could see Natasha, Anastacia and Sophie representing Britain at the highest sporting level.”
The competition ran over the February half-term week and included two days of intense training followed by two days of racing.
