A recent charity show entitled ‘This One’s For You’ has raised £3818.79 for Macmillan Caring Locally in Christchurch, Dorset.
The sell-out show featuring music from legends including Tom Jones, Michael Jackson and Madonna was written by Tommy Bond – a worldwide piano showman, recording artist and composer from Bournemouth – in memory of his mother.
Tommy aimed to raise awareness and funds for Macmillan Caring Locally, a charity which looked after his mother, Jill Sidwick, during her terminal illness. To produce and perform his show, he approached Angela Taylor, the principal of the Steppin’ Out Academy of Performance, and requested the help of the school’s students.
Alongside ticket sales, further fundraising efforts included a charity raffle, bag packing at Waitrose and collection buckets which the audience, cast and crew all generously contributed to.
A cheque for £3818.79 was presented to Lin Sharp, the Capital Appeal Director of Macmillan Caring Locally who said, “Macmillan Caring Locally is extremely grateful for this fantastic donation. The funds will go towards a much-needed new building that is currently in the planning stages. We were so impressed with the ‘This One’s For You’ performances, from the story to the costumes, the production to the choreography and of course the music and the super talented stars, the whole show was incredible. Thank you for your support and thank you to everyone who donated and bought raffle tickets.”
