Tops nurseries celebrate Plastic Free Month in the South
Tops Day Nurseries have spent the last month promoting the importance of reducing the amount of plastic they use as part of Plastic Free Month.
A recent winner of a Queen’s Award for Sustainable Development, Tops Day Nurseries are passionate about reducing their environmental impact to protect the future of the younger generation.
They avoid buying any one-use plastics including cling film, carrier bags, food bags, aprons, and wet wipes throughout their nurseries.
As well as this, they actively communicate with politicians, manufacturers, retailers, and waste-handling organisations to make their concerns heard, on behalf of the children.
It is from these efforts and many more that Tops Day Nurseries were the first day nursery chain in the UK to achieve B Corp certification and were also recently awarded a Queen’s Award for Enterprise in Sustainable Development, for providing inspiration and are genuinely driving change to the Early Years sector.
Tops Day Nurseries have nurseries in Dorset including Bournemouth, Christchurch, Poole, Corfe Mullen, Wimborne and Wareham. Activities were set up to teach children about sea animals and the effects plastic has on them and the ocean. One activity had the children identifying different sea animals and they were tasked with trying to save them from the plastic and ropes that were trapping them.
Simon Evans, senior nursery manager at Tops Day Nurseries said: “At Tops we believe it is important to teach the children about looking after our planet, one of the ways we do this is by teaching them about one use plastic and the effect it has on the planet and nature. The children are keen to learn about looking after our planet in a fun way and enjoy taking part in a range of different activities.”
