Twin Sails bridge to close for repairs
Poole’s bridge will shut to traffic from 30 November to 6 December for lifting mechanism maintenance.
The Poole Twin Sails lifting bridge will close for a week at the end of November so that planned repair work can be performed. The bridge, linking Poole and Hamworthy, needs further repairs to its lifting mechanism.
It is set to shut from 30 November until 6 December, with drivers and pedestrians urged to plan their routes and allow extra time for their journey. The bridge has been open for a good spell since its last major closure, five months of work that ended in February 2026 after a previous two-month closure in 2024.
Vehicle traffic and pedestrians will be diverted via Poole Lifting Bridge. In the long-term, a new mechanism is planned to replace the existing unit as part of a three-year plan, due for completion in 2028.
