Unauthorised traveller encampments in Dorset moved on
Dorset Police and partner agencies have taken action to tackle unauthorised traveller encampments.
The first unauthorised traveller encampment was reported on 20 May at Slade’s Farm in Ensbury Park, Bournemouth. The second was reported on 21 May on the car park and playing field at Rossmore Leisure Centre in Herbert Avenue, Poole. In both cases, officers attended the site and found caravans in situ.
Following liaison with local partners, eviction notices were sought under section 61 of the Criminal Justice and Public Order Act 1994.
The group at Ensbury Park left the area prior to the notice being served. The traveller encampment at Rossmore Leisure Centre moved on after the eviction notice was served.
Inspector Helen Deakin, of Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole Local Policing Area, said: “We are aware that there are a number of unauthorised traveller encampments across Bournemouth, Poole and Christchurch and I would like to reassure the public that we are monitoring them all and will take action where necessary.”
