Westbourne Rotary president wins volunteer award
Dorset Cancer Care Foundation presented the award to Rotarian Gordon Lewis at a special presentation in Merley House.
The president of a local Rotary Club has been recognised with a prestigious award for his dedication to volunteering.
Westbourne Rotary Club President Gordon Lewis received the Volunteer Award from Dorset Cancer Care Foundation at a special presentation in Merley House. Lewis was one of just nine volunteers to receive an award, not only because of the support he has given to the charity over the past year but also because of his decision to make Dorset Cancer Care Foundation one of the two chosen charities during his presidential year at Westbourne Rotary.
Dorset Cancer Care Foundation provides non-repayable grants to support people and families facing financial hardship due to a cancer diagnosis.
Over the past year, Lewis has volunteered at several of the charity’s events and helped to raise awareness of and support for its vital work across Dorset.
Award recipients received a framed certificate, a bottle of Prosecco and a restaurant voucher in recognition of their commitment and service. Meanwhile, guests at the celebration evening enjoyed a buffet, received a commemorative Dorset Cancer Care Foundation pin badge and a cupcake to take home. The evening also featured two performances by the Dorset Cancer Care Foundation Choir, adding to the celebratory atmosphere.
The awards were presented by Jeff Mostyn, patron of Dorset Cancer Care Foundation, who praised the dedication and generosity of the volunteers being recognised.
After receiving his award, Lewis said he was honoured by the recognition and thanked everyone at Dorset Cancer Care Foundation for their friendship and support throughout the year.
Westbourne Rotary Club congratulated Lewis on his well-deserved honour. The club added that his passion for supporting local charities and improving the lives of others reflects the Rotary motto of “Service Above Self” and serves as an inspiration to fellow Rotarians and the wider community.
