Thanks to the husband and wife team Kate and Gordon Compston, you can now enjoy a taste of the action from the famous All England Lawn Tennis Club here in Dorset.
The enterprising couple, who launched the Gin House earlier this year, will be transforming Wimborne Square into Wimbledon for the duration of the tennis championships from 28 June–10 July.
Part of the square will have a temporary bar adorned with tennis balls and the staff will be dressed as ball boys and girls. They will be serving a wide range of drinks including Pimms and Prosecco along with strawberries and cream, lunch and evening food.
Tennis fans will be able to watch the tournament on big TV screens.
Whilst Kate isn’t an avid tennis fan herself, she says she is looking forward to Wimbornedon, and said, “Traditionally Wimbledon is a bad time for the pub industry. It doesn’t matter what type of bar or pub you work in, there is always a slump in business so we thought this would be a good way to encourage people into the town during Wimbledon fortnight.”
Said Ian Faulkner, Chairman of the Wimborne BID: “It is great to see businesses in Wimborne working hard to bring people into town with innovative ideas like Wimbornedon. Visitors of all ages can enjoy the activities on The Square and take the opportunity to discover more of what Wimborne as a town has to offer.”
The Wimbornedon 2016 Programme:
From 9am to 11am there will be free children’s tennis coaching and ‘Deuce Bar’.
From 12 to 3pm there will be light lunches, strawberries, sandwiches and Pimms.
From 3pm to 5pm there will be afternoon cream teas with Prosecco and champagne followed by evening cocktails.
