Employers were urged to seize opportunities for staff development when they attended the latest Granby Business Breakfast at Weymouth Football Club. Julia Cohen and Shelley Poole from Weymouth College outlined the range of training and qualifications available when they spoke at the monthly event.
Business lecturer Shelley told guests about part-time higher education courses in manufacturing and engineering, and business and management. Julia, who is head of external partnerships, talked about funding, bespoke training packages and courses including NVQs, diplomas, day courses and professional qualifications as well as apprenticeships. James Bull, who is director of Weymouth-based IT Support 365, spoke about managing computer systems proactively in the regular Meet the Neighbour slot.
Jon Dobson, solicitor-advocate at the Granby office of Battens Solicitors, who hosted the event, said: “The speakers were very informative and interesting. The presentations by Shelley, Julia and James contained many gems of useful information, which businesses could take away with them.”
Cherise Luke-Bennett, senior associate solicitor at Battens, added: “The event was again well attended. In addition to networking in an informal atmosphere, the breakfasts are aimed at giving attendees a valuable insight into specific subjects which can help their businesses. We are already looking forward to the next breakfast when all are welcome to attend.”
The next Granby Business Breakfast has been brought forward to Tuesday 24 May because of the Bank Holiday, and will be from 7am to 8.30am at Weymouth Football Club. There will again be ample time for informal networking before the speakers at the friendly, informal event.
Lloyds Bank commercial finance regional manager Dan Williams and Lloyds Bank commercial manager for West Dorset Jeremy Weekes will give the main presentation about funding to grow your business and the importance of working capital.
Battens Solicitors, which has an office on the estate’s Oxford Court, launched the Granby Business Breakfast in January of this year supported by Weymouth and Portland Chamber of Commerce. It includes a hot buffet breakfast and the cost is £8.
