After his wife died from cancer, a freemason and his lodge raised more than £2,000 for the Youth Cancer Trust.
Mike Turner of Boscombe Lodge, which meets in Knole Road, Bournemouth, presented a cheque to Derek Smith from the charity.
The sum was raised by the members of the lodge at various fundraising events in memory of Mike’s wife Gill.
She worked at Bethany House, the retirement and sheltered housing development in Bournemouth, and had always been a keen supporter of the Youth Cancer Trust.
Mike said: “Youth Cancer Trust is a charity that my wife supported avidly and I know that the amount we raised will be put to really good use.”
The charity provides support and free, activity-based holidays for young people aged 14 to 30 living with cancer or any malignant disease from anywhere in the UK and Irish Republic or who are patients of any UK hospital.
It owns Tracy Ann House in Bournemouth, a small converted hotel situated a few minutes walk from Alum Chine and the beach.
The house accommodates up to eight youngsters each week from Monday to Friday. It is decorated, furnished and carpeted to a high standard and includes a games room with a pool table, table football, professional karaoke system, PS3, Xbox360, Nintendo Wii, keyboard and guitars.
