Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole Remembrance services
Services are taking place in towns across Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole, with the parades requiring several road closures.
Remembrance Day services and parades in Bournemouth, Christchurch, Poole and Broadstone are amongst those taking place across the BCP Council area this Sunday 9 November.
Cllr Andy Martin, portfolio holder for Customer, Communications and Culture, said: “Remembrance Day is a time for our communities to come together in reflection and gratitude. These events across Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole offer us all a chance to honour the courage and sacrifice of those who have served, and to ensure their legacy lives on.”
Bournemouth’s annual service will take place at the Cenotaph in the Central Gardens at 10.55am. The parade will start from Bournemouth Tennis Courts at 10.35am and will be led by the Salvation Army and BCCF Marching Bands.
To allow the event to take place safely, Braidley Road, Bourne Avenue and Avenue Road will be closed to vehicles from 9am until 1pm.
Christchurch’s parade will take place between Bargates and Christchurch Priory via the High Street.
It consists of a parade overseen by the Royal British Legion and joined by a mayoral civic party alongside a service at the Priory.
A wreath laying ceremony will be held in the Garden of Remembrance at 10.15am followed by a service in the Priory from 10.50am. A rolling road closure will be put in place between Bargates and the Priory for the procession outwards and also in reverse following the service.
In Poole, the parade will set off from the cricket pavilion at 10.20am to the War Memorial in Poole Park led by the Poole Sea Cadets Marching Band. The Poole Borough Band will be providing the music for the service.
When arriving at the memorial, the parade will form into its positions where the remembrance service takes place at 10.50am.
Following the service, the parade will reform and march back to the Cricket Pavilion where it will be dismissed. Poole Park will be closed to vehicles between 7am–1pm. Businesses will remain open for access by foot only during this time.
In Broadstone, a Remembrance Parade organised by the Broadstone Fields in Trust Association in partnership with the Broadstone Royal British Legion will take place from 10.30am to 11.35am.
It will begin at Tudor Road, proceeding along Dunyeats Road and Ridgeway to the entrance of Broadstone Park, followed by the laying of wreaths at the memorial and then returning via Ridgeway, West Heath Road, Kirkway and Macaulay Road.
