Fairness in glamour as Samantha from Poole is crowned Miss Dorset 2017
A 23-year-old contestant from Poole blows judges away as green-minded movers and shakers of Dorset gather at the Hilton Hotel in Bournemouth to witness the finale gala event of the Love Dorset Festival.
Samantha Bumford, 23, from Poole has been crowned Miss Dorset 2017 at the glamorous finale of the Love Dorset Festival held on 12 March.
She blew the judges away at the red carpet event held in the Hilton Hotel ballroom in Bournemouth, by stunning them with her commitment to and knowledge on social responsibility. Sam is already an ambassador for the Dorset-based assistance dog charity Woofability and is working tirelessly training up the puppy Binxy; who was lucky enough to join her on stage for the winning photo.
The finale took place on the last day of Fairtrade Fortnight, which aimed to inspire people to live better, healthier and more ethical lifestyles. Dorset is home to 10 Fairtrade towns and this is something well worth celebrating.
The Love Dorset Festival glamorised going green and local businesses and people have already started green initiatives and pledged to make healthier and more ethical lifestyle choices. The finale was organised to celebrate the end of Fairtrade Fortnight and to announce the beginning of the new Miss Dorset ambassador for local not for profit organisation We Do Ethical Living.
To win the competition Samantha competed in a variety of creative award rounds, such as the Miss Fairtrade Bake-Off – supported by the Fairtrade Foundation and Bournemouth University and the Miss Eco award round, where finalists up-cycled clothing to build outfits for the futuristic-themed fashion show – supported by Eco Group Ltd. The scores that Samantha earned through her award rounds gave her the highest scores overall, earning her the Miss Dorset title.
Samantha will now go on to compete in the Miss England 2017 competition on 12-14 July, at Resorts World Birmingham.
