Have your say on future of recycling in Bournemouth
Residents and businesses in Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole are invited to put forward their views on recycling.
People living in the Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole area can this month put forward their views on waste and recycling.
BCP Council is in the process of developing a new Waste Strategy that will set out key achievable ambitions for the next 10 years.
Among the priorities for the 10-year strategy are:
- Encouraging greater waste prevention, reuse and repair
- Finding more opportunities to recycle
- Aligning local policy with national standards to deliver services fit for the future
- Working towards sustainable waste targets to reduce carbon emissions
Recycling rates across Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole remain steady with just under 50 per cent of household waste sent for either reuse, recycling or composting. The government has introduced a national target of 65 per cent by 2035 and this strategy plays a vital role in meeting that goal.
Cllr Andy Hadley, portfolio holder for climate response, environment and energy at BCP Council, said: “Developing a waste strategy that is fit for the future will play an important role in meeting these ambitions by delivering upgraded infrastructure, improving waste management across our three towns, and encouraging greater recycling by everyone.
“This stage of the consultation is about hearing what residents and businesses want to see from the strategy.
“We are also keen to work with residents to demonstrate how they can save money, reduce waste and increase recycling, all helping them to reduce their carbon footprint.”
The public consultation closes at 11.59pm on 29 June. It can be completed online at haveyoursay.bcpcouncil.gov.uk/waste-strategy, whilst paper copies of the consultation documents can be requested at any of BCP’s libraries.
