Victoria Road planters have been stripped of their flowers by mean thieves.
The town council had recently re-bedded the planters in preparation for the summer and as a contribution to Ferndown’s entry into this year’s South and South East in Bloom competition.
King George V ground staff and the town’s lengthman spent several days removing the winter bedding and preparing the boxes before planting up by 3 June. On 14 June, four of the boxes were stripped, with around 175 plants being stolen.
Ian Jones, clerk to Ferndown Town Council, who helped with the preparation and planting of the beds said, “I am disappointed that people had removed so many plants for their own purposes.” He asked for members of the public to assist in helping to identify the culprits and added that in the past, a few plants had been removed. “This year matters seem to have escalated. It is sad that the displays have been decimated in this way,” he said. “There appears to be a lack of personal appreciation by a few people for what has been done by the town council to make the shopping area attractive to visitors.”
