Nursery offers free soup during half term
A Corfe Mullen nursery decided to play its part in ensuring children usually receiving free school meals did not go hungry during half term.
Against a backdrop of calls for support for parents struggling to feed their children in the holidays, staff and children at Tops Corfe Mullen were keen to help out.
The children have a weekly cooking session and were due to make a seasonal vegetable soup. The activity sparked the idea of cooking a bit extra to help those in need.
Deputy manager at Tops Corfe Mullen, Charlotte Richardson, said, “We are always looking out for ways to support the community whilst still providing a range of learning experiences for the children we care for. During our Halloween party, the children made vegetable soup to offer out to the local community.
“All of the staff within our nursery have a food hygiene certificate and have received allergen training so we wanted to offer out a free portion of vegetable soup to families within the local area.”
The nursery ensured social distancing was maintained and had a structure for collecting the soup inclusive of Covid-related safety measures.
