A project offering free haircuts to those facing financial hardship has been nominated for a prestigious award.
Community Haircuts has made the shortlist for a BBC Radio Solent Make a Difference Award. The awards recognise those making life better for people across Hampshire, Dorset and the Isle of Wight.
Community Haircuts was launched by hairdresser Georgia Chappels in Ringwood in September 2025. In the months since, it has gone from strength to strength. Chappels and her team of volunteer hairdressers now offer regular sessions in Ferndown, Verwood and Poole, in women refuges across Dorset, and will soon launch in Christchurch and Boscombe.
The person that nominated Community Haircuts wrote in their submission: “Georgia has recently qualified and wanted to help people who are struggling feel better and offer them a free haircut. Georgia has had a tough couple of years and the Ringwood community has really helped her when she needed it most, so she created something that she could offer back personally.
“Georgia gives up many hours of her time per week to offer this service whilst also working and raising her four children.
“She definitely deserves to be recognised for making a difference.”
In response to her nomination, Chappels said: “I have the biggest smile! I’m truly blown away to be nominated and it would not be possible without the incredible team around me.”

BBC Radio Solent will reveal the award finalists in the summer. The winners will be announced in September.
