Pupils and staff from St Mary’s CE First School in West Moors travelled to London last week to take part in an Election Special at the Houses of Parliament. As the votes of the 2015 General Election were still being counted, Year 4 pupils experienced a ‘mini’ election of their own. Political party lines were drawn as each ‘party’ of children busily drafted their own manifestos before campaigning began. Ultimately it was the aptly named ‘Red Saints Party’ who emerged victorious with their pledges to ban smoking and give more aid to developing nations. However in scenes echoing the General Election 2010, no overall majority was reached and therefore the ‘Government’ was formed as a coalition between ‘Red Saints’ and ‘Golden Keepers’. Leader of the ‘Red Saints’ and new Prime Minister, Megan, vowed to run the country in accordance with St Mary’s school motto – Believe in better and be more awesome!
