Teenage Ukrainian artist hosts show at Bournemouth Library
The exhibition of works by young Ukrainian artist Anastasiia Boiko is on display until 22 April.
A 15-year-old artist from Ukraine is currently displaying her work at Bournemouth Library until 22 April.
Anastasiia Boiko was born in Mariupol, where she began drawing at an early age and later studied at the Mariupol School of Arts. In March 2022, when the city was occupied, Anastasiia and her family were forced to leave their home and country, leaving behind most of her artworks.
Among the few pieces she was able to save were drawings created in a basement during the shelling of the city, illuminated only by a small handmade lamp.
Since April 2022, Anastasiia has been living in Poole, and her artwork has received international recognition, including second place at the Golden Time Talent international competition. Her art has been exhibited at London, Poole, Ireland and Dorset, including at The Tank Museum’s exhibition about the Ukrainian conflict: “Ukraine: Armoured Warfare in the Modern World.”
Her current exhibition at Bournemouth Library in The Triangle is titled “Light and Memory”. The collection of paintings and drawings created over several years reflect Anastasiia’s memories, resilience and personal experiences, including pieces created during the period in Mariupol when the city was under attack.
On Friday 17 April at 4pm, the exhibition will be visited by the chairman of BCP Council, Cllr Lesley Dedman, as well as a representative of The Tank Museum.
The exhibition is free to visit.
