Revealed: Dorset beach named one of Britain’s best beaches for dogs
Hengistbury West represents Dorset in a new UK-wide guide from Vets Now highlighting some of Britain's best beaches for dogs.
Hengistbury West has been named one of Britain’s best beaches for dogs by Vets Now.
The Dorset beauty spot was one of just 10 beaches across the UK selected for Vets Now’s 2026 guide, which highlights places where dogs are welcome and owners can enjoy the coast with confidence.
With a sheltered, south-facing beach, Hengistbury West secured a place in the UK-wide guide. The beaches were selected for how welcoming they are to dogs, taking in access, seasonal restrictions, on-site facilities and nearby dog-friendly spots.
Even on the safest, most welcoming beaches, the seaside carries hidden hazards — and Vets Now clinics across the country see a marked rise in beach-related emergencies every summer.
Why Hengistbury West made the list
- A sheltered, south-facing beach
- A short hop from Bournemouth
- Dogs are welcome all year round (unlike most Bournemouth beaches)
- One of six English beaches selected for the UK-wide guide
