Affordable homes plan for Poole

The plan is for smaller homes to be built at Constitution Hill on a site which has been vacant for some time.

More affordable homes could be built in Poole in the near future.
Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole (BCP) Council has submitted a planning application to build 115 new homes, including those providing specialist accommodation, at Constitution Hill.

With more than 3,500 households currently on the housing register, the development has been carefully designed to reflect local need. The mix of one, two and three-bedroom homes will help more people access housing that suits their circumstances, particularly those looking for smaller, more manageable homes.

Cllr Kieron Wilson, portfolio holder for Housing and Regulatory Services, said: “This is an important step forward in delivering much needed, genuinely affordable homes for our residents.

“We know there is significant demand for housing in our area, particularly for one and two-bedroom homes, and this development directly responds to that need.
“Just as importantly, this scheme will breathe new life into a long-vacant site, creating a safe, attractive and sustainable place to live that supports healthier communities.”

As well as delivering new homes, the scheme aims to create a place where people can feel connected, active and supported. The proposals include landscaped social gardens, a welcoming arrival space, improved walking routes, and nature play areas for families, helping encourage healthier lifestyles and stronger neighbourhood connections.

Green infrastructure is at the heart of the design, with new rain gardens and sustainable drainage features helping to manage water and support biodiversity, while existing woodland will be retained and enhanced to create a greener environment for residents and wildlife.
