Bournemouth Chamber president reveals plans for the coming year
Nigel Hedges has been re-elected as president of the Bournemouth Chamber of Trade and Commerce.
The president of a Chamber of Trade, which was established 110 years ago, has big plans for the future.
Nigel Hedges, who has been re-elected as president of the Bournemouth Chamber of Trade and Commerce (BCTC), is to supercharge existing special network groups and add more, including a ‘digital growth’ group.
The Chamber will also continue with its full calendar of events and networking opportunities.
Hedges has also reaffirmed his intention to bring youth to the forefront of the Chamber, and he points to a number of younger members on the board.
He said: “The Chamber is not just about networking but is also about giving advice – we have lots of expertise and experts that members can call upon.
“With a raft of new taxes and an economy that is struggling, the right advice could prove absolutely crucial, and our members understand this.
“We have influence with the council, a seat on the Destination Management Board and a close relationship with the Dorset Chamber. We will use all the contacts we have for the benefit of our members.
“Furthermore, we are creating more special networking groups, and these are proving very popular and useful.
“I want to set the Chamber up for a successful future and that is why we are encouraging younger members to take up positions.
“We are also introducing more events to go along with our popular BH Banter get-togethers, including breakfast meetings.
“Our board members have different reasons for taking on their roles, but all want the best for the town and have impressive skills.
“They want to assist the council, help keep the parks and gardens attractive for locals and visitors, and bring together the trading suburbs.
“They want to add real value to members and build an effective business community and grow a more diverse board.
“Former members are now returning, and we have been able to keep our annual subscriptions under £100 – they cost just £90.”
