Double success for Wimborne retailer at national awards
Home electronics store Dacombes of Wimborne received not one but two trophies at a recent awards ceremony.
A home electronics store from Wimborne Minster achieved double success at the recent ERT Awards in London, a prestigious competition that recognises the best of the UK’s electrical retail industry.
Dacombes of Wimborne is an independent, family-run business with over 100 years of heritage in the town, was crowned the Best Sustainable Independent Electrical Retailer for the second consecutive year. Judges applauded the store for its bold eco strategy and commitment to energy efficiency.
Judges praised Dacombes of Wimborne’s transition to solar power, with 99 solar panels now installed on the showroom roof in Leigh Road. During working hours, the business is fully self-sufficient in energy, powering hundreds of appliances, including televisions. The company has invested in EV van chargers, a Tesla battery and uses a heat pump system for heating and cooling, alongside energy-efficient lighting and equipment throughout. It has also replaced ink, paper and labels with an in-store digital price tag system.
Dacombes also won an award for Best Independent Consumer Electronics Retailer in the Small Business category and was congratulated on its customer services and business resilience.
Managing director Matt Renaut said: “These two awards are like receiving two huge, big ticks for what we really care about as a business. As an independent, customer service and highly trained staff have always been at our core.
“Alongside this proud recognition is our eco strategy and commitment to moving Dacombes forward for another 100 years in the most sustainable way possible.”
At the awards ceremony, Dacombes of Wimborne also received a Highly Commended nod in the Best Independent Kitchen Retailer Showroom category, thanks to its collaboration with fellow Wimborne business MK Interiors. Judges were impressed by the fully working in-store kitchens, which are also offered free of charge to local community groups for cookery classes and events.
