Firefighters tackle Wimborne restaurant blaze
Several firefighter crews and apparatus were summoned to put out a fire at a restaurant in Wimborne Minster.
Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service were called to West Borough in Wimborne Minster at around 7.40pm on Monday 11 May following reports of a fire in a commercial property.
Firefighters arrived to discover the roof of Rosemary restaurant was ablaze. A total of nine crews were summoned to the scene, including two sets of crew from both Wimborne and Poole, as well as from Westbourne, Redhill Park, a command unit from Hamworthy, the aerial ladder platform from Westbourne and a water carrier from Poole.
Eight firefighters donned breathing apparatus to use main lines and hose reel jets to extinguish the fire.
The crews left the scene around 3am on Tuesday 12 May. The site is due to reinspected later in the day.
It is believed that the fire started in the restaurant’s kitchen then spread to the roof.
Rosemary is based in the building formerly known as Purbeck House.
Eye witness Anthony Oliver said: “By the time I arrived the firemen were damping down, but earlier smoke had been billowing from the building.”
