Jurassic Coast labelled the UK’s most scenic road trip
Looking for a fun road trip idea? Then why not travel along the Jurassic Coast.
If you need an excuse to stay in your air-conditioned car and beat the heat, or simply looking for a fun summer road trip, then consider taking a drive along the Jurassic Coast.
The 95-mile route from Weymouth to Exmouth in East Devon, following the B3157, has been labelled as the UK’s most scenic road trip.
Based on research by the high-end retailer House of Bruar into the best UK road trips, using data from the RAC and social media, it was found that the Jurassic Coast route is highly popular, with over 522,000 hashtags.
The route offers a glimpse of some of the most prominent natural landmarks in the country. Highlights include the towering limestone arch of Durdle Door, the perfectly formed horseshoe shape of Lulworth Cove, and the iconic Chesil Beach, which is the place to stop for a fossil hunt.
Along the way, you can stop in charming villages like Abbotsbury, take in the breathtaking views from the top of Wears Hill, and see the golden cliffs of West Bay.
Other top road trips according to the research include the North Coast 500 in Scotland, Cheddar Gorge in Somerset, and Snake Pass in the Peak District.
Here’s the ranking for the top eight routes in the UK:
Jurassic Coast Drive (Dorset/Devon)
North Coast 500 (Scotland)
Pembrokeshire Coast 200 (Pembrokeshire)
Cheddar Gorge (Somerset)
Causeway Coastal Route (Northern Ireland)
Moray Firth Route (North Highlands)
Anglesey Coastal Path (Wales)
Snake Pass (Peak District)
