New Forest artists bring the landscape to life in new Lyndhurst exhibition
New Forest Marque Inspired artists celebrate the landscape, wildlife, history and folklore of the New Forest.
Running from 22 August to 27 September at the New Forest Heritage Centre in Lyndhurst, the free exhibition will feature 18 artists working across painting, ceramics, photography, textiles, jewellery and more.
New Forest Marque Inspired artists draw inspiration not only from the beauty of the Forest, but also from its rich history, folklore and traditions, bringing the stories and character of this unique landscape to life. This year’s exhibition showcases the breadth of creative talent within the Inspired community – from photographer Alex Wright’s striking panoramic vistas, to Tracy Dovey’s expressive paintings exploring women, myth and witchcraft, and Evelyn Bartlett’s bright and joyful gouache landscapes and seascapes.
The first two weeks coincide with Hampshire Open Studios, with the exhibition continuing throughout September to give visitors further opportunities to discover the artwork.
The exhibition is part of a wider celebration of New Forest creativity during Hampshire Open Studios, with some New Forest Marque Inspired members also opening their studios and exhibiting at independent venues across the Forest, including CODA Music and Arts in Walkford, Hordle Art Club at Hordle Community Centre and Watermark at Lepe Country Park.
‘The New Forest has always been a huge source of inspiration for artists, but what makes the Inspired community particularly special is the incredible variety of ways that people interpret the landscape. Using a variety of media, each artist brings their own perspective. Hampshire Open Studios is a wonderful opportunity to celebrate that creativity and invite people to see the Forest through new eyes.’ – Jasmin Glossop, Inspired Membership and Events Coordinator.
The New Forest Marque is the recognised sign of genuine local produce and craftsmanship in the New Forest, supporting a community of businesses committed to the Forest and its future.
New Forest Marque Inspired was introduced in November 2023 as an additional branch of the Marque, supported by funding from Arts Council England. The membership is open to artists and craftspeople whose work is influenced by the New Forest’s natural landscape, wildlife and heritage.
The New Forest Marque Inspired exhibition is open to the public between 22 August and 27 September ,10am to 5pm, at The New Forest Heritage Centre, Main Car Park, Lyndhurst SO43 7NY. Entry is free.
