West Moors festival basked in sunshine
Westival took place on Saturday 11 July.
Crowds turned out in West Moors on 11 July to enjoy a family-friendly festival atmosphere on Fryer Field, and all for free.
The event organised by West Moors Town Council gets more varied every year. One of the organisers, Judi Weedon, said: “There have been a lot of people here. It’s been a good day.”
Urban Displays wowed an enthusiastic crowd with their daring leaps to and from the tops of vehicles.
How the spider-man themed Bournemouth Carnival Band managed to bear the heat in their long sleeves and trouser costumes defied belief. Their comedic stage act included rainy and watery musical contributions, probably driven by their longing to cool down. Also on stage during the festival were the popular Audio Allstars.
The pets’ corner was a great success, and animals were kept shaded by the tree line and the breeze. Birds of prey had large bowls of water to paddle and ruffle their feathers in.
Elsewhere there were stalls, food, drinks and ice creams. There was children’s entertainment with Krazy Kev, a climbing wall, water fun and aerial displays by Phoenix Aerial Circus, where children could have a go at circus skills took place throughout the day. The classic cars filled several rows in the centre of the field with a trophy for ‘the car I’d most like to take home’ being awarded. There was also a grand raffle with cash prizes.
