Wimborne brings environment to life
There are two final events in Wimborne u3a and Planet Wimborne’s ‘Greener Wimborne, Better Planet’ series in June.
The month of June will see the final two sessions of Wimborne u3a and Planet Wimborne’s environmental learning series: ‘Greener Wimborne, Better Planet’.
In Wimborne’s Town of Culture year, ‘Arts and the Environment’ on 1 June from 1pm–3pm explores how the arts can inspire environmental understanding and action. With contributions from Wimborne Contemporary Arts and Wimborne Community Theatre, participants will discover local creative projects from music to sound and art. There will be an opportunity to consider how cultural experiences can be enjoyed in ways that respect and protect the natural world.
Then on 15 June from 1pm–3pm, there’s a chance to ‘Walk on the Wild Side’ with a guided walk at Badbury Rings and the surrounding woodlands. Participants will learn about the birds, plants and wildlife that define chalk downland habitats.
Wimborne u3a Chairman Ashley Rowlands said: “Greener Wimborne, Better Planet is about bringing people together to learn, explore and take positive action. We’ve been delighted with the interest in the series so far and the final two sessions look set to be as popular.”
Planet Wimborne spokesperson Adrian Newton said: “This series shows what can happen when a community comes together with curiosity and purpose. From creative expression to hands on nature learning, these sessions help people see that environmental action isn’t abstract. It’s something we can all take part in, right here in Wimborne.”
Sessions are free for u3a members and £10 for non members. Please apply in advance via email to Horace Letchford: membership@wimborneu3a.org.uk.
