Wimborne groups to host waste and wildlife talks
Wimborne u3a and Planet Wimborne are partnering to hold two talks in May in the in the ‘Greener Wimborne, Better Planet’ learning series.
Residents are invited to two talks in the Wimborne Minster areas to learn ways to reduce waste and support wildlife close to home.
The events in May are part of the ‘Greener Wimborne, Better Planet’ learning series, a collaboration between u3a Wimborne and Planet Wimborne. The series is designed to help people explore environmental challenges through learning, discussion and hands-on experience and to see how small community actions can make a real difference.
The first session, ‘Let’s Talk Rubbish’, takes place on 11 May, brings together Wimborne War on Waste and Win on Waste. The talk, presented by Linda Bunting and Sarah Wise, explores the waste hierarchy and looks at where individual and collective efforts have the greatest impact. Participants will come away with practical, everyday tips on reducing waste at home and in the community.
Bunting said: “‘Let’s Talk Rubbish’ is a chance for people to really understand where their waste goes, how to make better choices about what you buy to reduce waste and to rethink and reuse so our overall waste is minimised. We like to include an interactive game to get people engaged, to reduce the confusion over what can be recycled and dispel some of the greenwashing and myths that producers use.”
Then on 18 May, Wilding Wimborne presents ‘Wildlife-Friendly Gardening’, highlighting simple and effective steps gardeners can take to support birds, insects and plants.
Each session lasts between two and three hours and takes place at The Reef, Colehill Lane, Colehill, unless otherwise stated, starting at 1.30pm.
The series is free for u3a members and £10 for non-members. Places should be booked in advance. To book, or to receive further information, please contact Horace Letchford at membership@wimborneu3a.org.uk.
