Bournemouth residents head to the polls
Elections for the new Bournemouth, Broadstone and Poole Town Councils take place today.
Residents are heading to the polls today to vote in the town council elections in Bournemouth, Broadstone and Poole.
More than 130 polling stations opened at 7am this morning. Voters have until 10pm to cast their vote.
Residents will elect a total of 50 town councillors: 21 in both Bournemouth and Poole Town Councils, and eight in Broadstone Town Council.
Registered votes can find their local polling station by visiting www.bcpcouncil.gov.uk/polling-station.
Aidan Dunn, returning officer for the elections, said: “These elections are a chance to vote for local representatives who act as a voice for their community on parish-level matters, and we encourage you to have your say.
“I would like to remind residents to ensure they bring an acceptable form of photo ID with them when attending the polling station tomorrow.
“The ID does not necessarily need to be in date, provided the photograph is a clear likeness of you.
“Please remember to bring your photo ID, as this will help ensure that everyone who wishes to take part is able to have their say in this democratic election.”
Residents must bring an accepted form of ID to vote. This can be a passport, driving licence, Blue Badge or Voter Authority Certificate. A full list of acceptable ID can be found at www.electoralcommission.org.uk/voting-and-elections/voter-id.
Expired ID can be used if the voter is still recognisable in the photo.
The results will take place from 10am on Friday 8 May.
