Bus shelter improvements for Ringwood

Works have taken place at North Poulner Road and Eastfield Lane stops improving the experience of using public transport.

People using the buses in Ringwood now have greater comfort at two of the town’s shelters. Ringwood Town Council has made improvements through Hampshire County Council’s Parish Council Bus Shelter Grant Scheme.

At North Poulner Road, refurbishment works have been carried out to the brick-built bus shelter. The ageing tiled roof, which had deteriorated over time, has been replaced, while worn fascia boards have also been renewed. A new bench has been constructed within the shelter to improve comfort for waiting passengers.
The improvements will help ensure the shelter remains weatherproof and fit for purpose for many years to come, providing better protection from the elements for bus users.

At Eastfield Lane, a new bench has been installed on the grass verge to the rear of the existing bus shelter. The installation follows a request from a regular bus user who highlighted the need for seating at this stop.

Due to the design of the existing cantilever-style shelter, it was not possible to retrofit a bench within the structure itself.

Cllr Glenys Turner, who championed the Council’s bus shelter improvement programme said: “Good quality bus shelters and seating can greatly improve the experience of using public transport. I am pleased that these improvements will provide passengers with greater comfort and protection from the elements, while also responding directly to feedback from local residents. The refurbishment of the shelter at North Poulner Road will help ensure it remains in good condition for years to come, and the new bench at Eastfield Lane will provide a welcome place to sit while waiting for a bus. I am delighted that support from Hampshire County Council’s Parish Council Bus Shelter Grant Scheme has helped us deliver these practical improvements for the community.”
