Community theatre production to be staged at Kingston Lacy

Audiences will learn about what makes Kingston Lacy and Wimborne so special in a production to be staged by Wimborne Community Theatre.

A magical outdoor theatre production is to be staged at Kingston Lacy from 22-27 September as part of Wimborne Town of Culture 2026.

Entitled ‘Belonging: Our Search for Home’ audiences will be taken on an immersive journey through the landscape of Kingston Lacy, weaving together stories of Wimborne’s past and present.

The play, which asks the question ‘what is home? a feeling, a place, a person?’, celebrates 35 years of Wimborne Community Theatre creating locally made, site-specific art.

The dreamlike production will guide audiences on a magical journey through the Kingston Lacy landscape, weaving together stories of the past and present to explore universal themes of identity and community.

Guest Director, Rohan Gotobed said: “We are making adventurous new theatre for local people, celebrating Wimborne as Dorset’s Town of Culture, and giving everyone an opportunity to see this beautiful site anew.

“We enter a world of secrets, stories and songs, and audiences can expect an evening of captivating entertainment that will draw them in, evoke both laughter and tears, and most importantly make everyone reconsider what ‘home’ means to us all.

“It has been wonderful to develop this play over the last 12 months, and I am excited for Dorset audiences to join us on this immersive journey and discover what makes Kingston Lacy, and Wimborne, so special.”

The production is supported using public funding by Arts Council England, Wimborne Minster Town Council, Dorset Council, The Arts Development Company, Talbot Village Trust and sponsors Wimborne BID and Canford School. It is also supported by the National Trust, with kind permission to stage the performances in the grounds of Kingston Lacy.

Wimborne Town of Culture Project Manager Emma Kerr said: “Belonging: Our Search for Home has been created with and for the community, using the landscape, local history and performance to question and consider what home has meant through the generations. The performance offers an unforgettable experience inspired by Wimborne’s past and present and we are delighted that this innovative show is one of the creative strands of our landmark ‘Home’ project for Wimborne Town of Culture.”

Gates open at 6.15pm and audiences are invited to explore an interactive pre-show fair from 6.30pm before the main performance begins at 7pm each evening.

Tickets are strictly limited due to the promenade nature of the performance and are expected to sell out quickly. Advance booking is highly recommended.
