Dorset’s Pulpit Rock appears in new Lord of the Rings series
Famous rock formation adds gravitas to new The Rings of Power scene.
Dorset’s coast continues to make waves in Hollywood movies and major TV series. From Project Hail Mary (Durdle Door) to Star Wars: Andor (Winspit Quarry) and now Lord of the Rings, local impressive landmarks pop up as key visual features.
While the rest of the world might think they are yet more computer graphics, they act as a source of pride for Dorset’s corner of the world, with Portland Bill’s Pulpit Rock the latest to make an appearance.
It appears in the newly released The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power series three trailer, which is fast approaching five million views, one day after appearing online. The few frames show Pulpit Rock in the mid-ground as a mighty fleet of Númenor ships sails toward the city of Armenelos.
Filmed a year ago, the scenes feature Robert Aramayo as Elrond, Trystan Gravelle as Pharazôn and Benjamin Walker as Gil-galad on the set. The new series will air on Amazon Prime from 11 November 2026.
