Flying Scotsman visits Swanage this month
A semi-regular migratory visitor to Dorset in the autumn, the Flying Scotsman is coming back to Swanage Railway.
Starting from 24 October and running to 1 November, the legendary locomotive will give railway enthusiasts and families the chance to experience a ride behind one of the world’s most famous steam trains.
Delivering steamy nostalgia, the magic of witnessing a historic locomotive puffing through the beautiful Purbeck countryside has to rate as a top attraction this autumn.
Now 103 years old, the Scotsman was designed by Sir Nigel Gresley and first ran in 1923. She hit 100mph in 1934, running services until retirement in 1963, and has since toured the world as a popular attraction.
Now, returning to Swanage, as an exhibit of The National Railway Museum, York, ride places and space for a good view will be limited. Tickets cost from £29.95 for children and £59.95 for adults.
If that’s sounds too busy, Swanage Railway is running Halloween Ghost Trains across the 30-31 October. With an after-dark Halloween experience for ages 14+ on the second date.
